i value this "golden" riza christ pantokrator icon among all the icons i have inherited, because it is the first orthodox icon in my entire life that i have seen. of course i venerate such an icon, through which i learned about icons in the first place. so basically this is the very first picture of jesus that i have ever seen. if you think as a christian, of course you would value such an icon that has taught you what your god and savior looks like.
this icon was probably the reason why i have expensive taste these days. my silly childhood autistic hyperfixation was always jumping in bed to the corner of the icon in order to see the reflections and rays of light in the riza. it shines like the sun. that's why i like everything that resembles gold.
this has always been my favorite icon and my grandmother liked it a lot too. she had that hodigtria icon on wall for decades and she changed it to this pantocrator. it was bought from the new valamo monastery in 1992.
this icon is not very old. it is the second newest of the inherited icons. it's still pretty cool to think that this icon is almost as old as the current finnish bible translation.
