why i think that psychology is useful and useless

i think that psychology is useful for people who have not gone through all the stages of erik erikson's developmental theory and don't have secure attachment style (john bowlby).

many of mental health problems come from the fact that the person hasn't gone through these stages and don't have secure attachment style.

in erikson's theory, there is eight stages in each age bracket and if you are stuck in them, your thinking is immature and you need to let go of it:

basic trust vs. basic mistrust (1-year old)

everyone who don't have secure attachment style, are developmentaly stunted in this stage. this stage is fundamental, because if this is not in order, you are very likely not in any other stage of development. all stages of development are based on a person's basic trust. how could a person really recover from mental health problems if they initially think of people as threatening? people should accept that not everything can be controlled or predicted, and they must tolerate uncertainty while at the same time trusting that things will work out.

very person should have a little bit of stoicism in them to stay sane. if shit hits the fan, then it hits, and it's not the end of the world.

i think that this is the fundamental problem of gen z and the main cause of their mental health problems. i understand that of course, if you had unrestricted internet access since you were like 7-11 years old and you were at the computer every day for several hours, you have seen all kinds of shit that made you lost the hope on humanity, it's understandable that you are regressed back into 1-year old level thinking by not trusting anyone. there are a lot of dog whistles on the internet where people don't directly reveal their motives, there are a lot of suspicious people and just generally fucked up people.

with these, i often notice in gen z people that when they are traumatized by people, they have hypervigilance. they usually start to notice small things in people and draw unnecessary conclusions from them. okay, he likes that artist, red flag, he's quite moderate politically, but still, red flag who knows if he's quite radical, okay, he has strange hobbies, red flag, he's a white straight man, red flag, red flag, red flag. these people are unable to understand that even if they see red flags everywhere, it will not protect them but will create unnecessary anxiety about a danger that may not exist. you are afraid of life. life is about making choices without thinking about it and if it results in shitty consequences, then you can worry and fix it.

just because something happens often doesn't mean it will happen in the future. like of course, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and thinking things will change. but can we truly know anything about anything? so why do you even care about threats? it's a disgusting idea that you're not in control, but it's the truth.

you don't think it's the truth? even if you bet money on the side with the lower odds, you can still lose money. everything is random, absolutely everything. this world doesn't make sense and you should get used to it. so why you are sad about it?

you had an interpretation of the world, you trusted your interpretation and you were disappointed. but that is your interpretation, not reality. so why don't you humble yourself and realize that even if you spend thousands of hours on pattern recognition, it still won't describe reality?
